How do we make Wisconsin’s children the healthiest in the nation?

At Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, that is our vision. To everyone who works here, those are more than words, and we strive to improve the health of all children each and every day. We are making progress.

How do we do it? We don’t do it alone. Our work takes us into the community where we partner with organizations with the same commitment to kids. Through our partnerships with …Continue reading →

A most heartfelt thank you — Miracle Marathon 2014

Last week, our community came together to celebrate our own Memorial Day tradition — the Dave & Carole Miracle Marathon on 96.5 WKLH. Our lobby buzzed with activity as Dave Luczak and Carole Caine broadcasted live from our hospital. They have been instrumental in making Miracle Marathon one of the most successful radiothons in the nation, and words cannot describe our gratitude to them and the entire WKLH team.

In just 36 hours, this year’s event raised $1.42 million, which is truly amazing. This was the …Continue reading →

We’re in the top 1 percent

Magnet Recognition ProgramIt’s been an exciting two weeks for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin nurses. As we wrapped up National Nurses Week celebrations last week, we were informed of another announcement that we have been anticipating — we were scheduled to receive a phone call from the prestigious Magnet Recognition Program® with news of whether or not Children’s Hospital would receive Magnet designation for the third consecutive time.

This morning our auditorium was packed full of nurses, multidisciplinary team members and leaders. Staff from our Surgicenter and Fox Valley hospital joined by phone and in …Continue reading →

Working together for kids and families

Today we experienced a frightening situation at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

We are still waiting for all the details to emerge. What we do know is that a man who was visiting our hospital was involved in an altercation with police and was shot.

My heart goes out to the family involved, to all of our patients and families who were here at the time, and to all of our employees who worked together to relieve patients and families of their fears. As the news broke, I know that friends and family were worried as they waited …Continue reading →

Bombing in Boston: Finding inspiration when tragedy strikes

My heart goes out to the victims, and all the friends and family impacted by the bombing at the Boston Marathon yesterday.

Anytime tragedy strikes, I am deeply saddened by the injuries and loss of life. And as is often the case, I am equally inspired by those who rushed in to help. It’s difficult to make sense of events like this, unless you pay attention to the helpers. In Boston, emergency workers, volunteers, and even the runners themselves, rushed in to care for the injured. This kind of spirit and dedication is what lifts us up when times are tough and gets us …Continue reading →

Like you, we believe kids deserve the best

Like all moms, I wanted only the best for my girls as they were growing up. Throughout my career as a health care provider, I tested the quality of my work by asking: would this be good enough for my kids? At Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, we’ve never settled for anything less than the best for kids — and we never will. I consider it an honor to work for …Continue reading →
