Children’s Miracle Network HospitalsMay really is for miracles, and I’m writing to tell you why. My name is Debbie, and I’m a mom and Walmart associate. I’ve helped raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for the past 20 years.

So the next time you’re at Walmart or Sam’s Club shopping for groceries, picking up a prescription, getting pictures developed or browsing for home goods, I ask you to buy a red and yellow Miracle Balloon and help the kids in our community get the great health care they deserve at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

I work at the Milwaukee Walmart located in the Midtown Shopping Center. If you stop by my store from now through June 15, you’re going to hear a lot of noise. I have given the cashiers cow bells, party horns and bike horns. Each time a customer gives a donation, no matter how small or large, our cashiers are encouraged to make some noise. This is a competition among the cashiers to see who raises the most money and noise. In my book, noise + excitement = more donations.

Being involved with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals means more than words can explain. Every day I hear from one associate or another about how Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has impacted their lives. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin gives kids a fighting chance because they are conducting research to find new cures for childhood diseases.

Since 1987, Walmart and Sam’s Club have raised more than $600 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In our community, all money raised in the stores goes to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

The following outlets are raising funds through Miracle Balloon sales at the register:

  • Walmart and Sam’s Club: through June 15.
  • Costco Wholesale: through May 31.
  • Speedway: through May 28. (Plus, all month long, partial proceeds from all fountain drinks and Speedy Freeze purchases benefit Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.)
